Poyourow has pulled off a nearly impossible feat: creating a page-turner environmental document and doing it well.
-- HopeDance Magazine

Legacy ... is an education in Sustainability set in fiction.
-- Southern Sierran
(Angeles Chapter of the Sierra Club)

On the surface, it is a very compelling novel ...
but the science underlying the action is real and
well-researched.

MORE COMMENTS:

We have quite a bit of apocalyptic imagining in our precarious time; it's sweet and sensible to balance it with a glimpse or two of the world we might build if we got down to work.
-- Bill McKibben, renowned environmental writer

The book was very thought-provoking, and the author did a wonderful job of presenting the challenges we will be facing and a comprehensive blueprint for dealing with them. She wove it into a nicely developed plot and personal story, which will attract a reader who might not otherwise take the time or trouble to learn about these things.
The book did a beautiful job of putting things into perspective, which often times gets lost in the clutter of the 10,000 environmental issues that pop up and become the focus of debate.
-- DP, Cypress, CA

In the face of a problem as large as global warming, the non-organic, lawn-growing, SUV-driving populace amongst whom I live react to the writings of many of the environmental authors by saying, "There's nothing I can do, so I may as well keep living the way I'm living." In stark contrast, Joanne Poyourow suggests a myriad of baby steps people can take ... toward a vision of a sustainable future.

LEGACY is an amazing book and it's inspired me to do the things that i've always wanted to do but wasn't sure how. i want to work with my community toward sustainability. -- DBL, Los Angeles

Legacy is recommended by the Sierra Club as a selection about Sustainable Consumption.

Legacy has won the LiFe Award, Literature for Environment, for books that "value the wonderful world of nature, ... recognize that we are merely one species out of millions, and that we have a responsiblity to cherish and maintain our small planet."

READER COMMENTS:

It is refreshing to find an upbeat book about such an overwhelming subject! And even better, to read a positive social and technological plan to combat global warming, instead of the doomed or helpless attitudes that abound, or 'the sky is falling' articles with no ideas or plan for how to change. It was great to find out that the technologies described are real and to read a coherent description of the politics involved.

It’s a positive vision and one to get your teeth into, and well worth reading. It stirred me and had me in tears sometimes, and here we have ... a positive vision of the Transition written by a woman, a task men have yet to embrace.

Thank you for the lovely and interesting Legacy! I appreciate the intensity of the future envisioned here and the ways you have imagined it to be more innovative. I will share your thoughtful and encouraging book with my colleagues.
--Robin M. Kramer, Chief of Staff to Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa

I am completely blown away. I can’t even express how impressed I am not only with the depth of the subjects but with the writing. I have a stack of books I’m trying to read right now but I’m glued to this one. The book is inspiring me to take action and make my own contributions towards sustainability.
-- PB, Stevensville, MD

This book was my sole choice of reading material for a 10 hour round-trip from LA to Georgia in early June. It couldn't have been a more perfect decision, as I never wanted to "put it down"! ... If I had my way, it would be read by every governmental official; be required reading in our school systems; and be a chosen title for book clubs.
